Fill a tall glass with ice cubes, leaving about an inch of space at the top.
Pour the cherry syrup over the ice, letting it settle at the bottom of the glass.
Add the freshly squeezed lime juice, pouring it slowly to create subtle layers of color.
Top with chilled sparkling water, pouring gently down the side of the glass to preserve carbonation.
Stir gently with a long spoon just once or twice to barely combine, keeping some of the layered effect visible.
Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim and a fresh cherry if desired, then serve immediately while cold and fizzy.
