Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh blueberries plus extra for garnish
  • 8-10 fresh mint leaves plus sprigs for garnish
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice from about 6-8 lemons
  • 1/2 cup honey or granulated sugar adjust to taste
  • 4 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes for serving

Method

  1. In a large pitcher, combine the fresh blueberries and mint leaves. Using a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon, gently press and twist to release the berry juices and mint oils. Continue for about 30 seconds until the blueberries are broken down and the mixture is fragrant.
  2. Add the honey or sugar to the muddled mixture and stir vigorously for 1-2 minutes until the sweetener is completely dissolved. If using granulated sugar, you may need to stir a bit longer.
  3. Pour in the freshly squeezed lemon juice and stir well to combine with the blueberry-mint base. The mixture should turn a beautiful purple-pink color.
  4. Add the cold water and stir everything together. Taste and adjust sweetness by adding more honey or sugar if needed, keeping in mind that ice will dilute the flavor slightly.
  5. For the smoothest texture, strain the lemonade through a fine-mesh strainer into a clean pitcher, pressing on the solids to extract all the flavorful liquid. Alternatively, leave unstrained for a more rustic presentation.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld, or serve immediately over ice.
  7. Fill glasses with ice cubes, pour the chilled lemonade over the top, and garnish each glass with fresh blueberries and a sprig of mint. Serve immediately and enjoy!
